MOTIVATING MY STUDENTS

Well, I´m here to share a few things I´ve been doing in my class. One of my personal objectives in my English language class is to make my students feel confident about their use of English. So that, I created these activivites where they´re the main characters. I brought two songs to my class and they have chosen one of them to learn and sing. I posted the songs´ video with lyrics on FB and also here in this blog. In class we have been practicing but not as much as they are doing at home. I think. I wanted they sang the song in class in front of their partners. However, they asked  me permission to allow them to record a video of their performance. I said yes. My puerpose is motivate them, so if they feel this way  can work, go ahead. Now, I´ve been receiving the videos. Some of them are amazing. They have a dance routine whie they sing. Some students decided to work in pairs. One students have sang one song thet we didn´t proposed in class. In many cases the volume of the karaoke is too loud, but even that I can listen to them.
Having Watched all these videos I can say my opinion about them. Firstly, I believe that every student who have done the video has started to engage with the English class. They love how  technology is involved in the process. Even when some students do not sing at all, they feel and think they´re doing and that´s a small step to be commited with the learning process. Now also is possible for me to realize what are the main pronunciation problem and try to solve it in some way.

Despite these positives faces of the project, I´m facing the negative face too. Most of the students are not engaged in this activity. Perhaps they do not have anough support at home? Maybe I have not got to motivate them enough. Sometimes I feel They´re afraid  of English.

Anyway, they´re posting videos on FB and I hope they can attract more students to make their own videos.

The second strategy students worked was an oral presentation. I posted info about Barranquilla´s carnaval, so they could choose a paragraph or ideas about the theme. After study the topic they should present it to the rest of the class. They could also, bring and extra support as posters or music or something related to the carnaval.
I haven´t received many presentations, just five or six students per class have done the activity. As I said I just want to motivate them and show them that they are able to speak at least 3 or 5 minutes in English. When the do their presentations I see them very nervous but at the same time they´re very proud of themselves.

WELCOME

Hello everyone....




This blog has been created to support my students process of learning English. I hope to catch their attention and motivate them throught different kind of strategies that they can find out here.

I will try to give them as many resources as they can need or they can manage. That´s why I´ve designed different pages , so they can chose what to do or according to the topic I could suggest they focus in the right one.

Also, I will give them  instructions or info about the projects we work on each period of the academic year.

I have some expectations about the blog, and I hope to achieve them. Beside I hope this blog can help or support others teacher of English projects, and maybe we can share here some succefull ideas about teaching English.
